Julie Flower is an experienced management consultant, facilitator, improviser and coach. She leads The Specialist Generalist, a small consultancy committed to excellence in the themes and skills common to success in all organisations, regardless of sector. She also works as an Associate with 2020 Delivery and The Culture Builders.
With a varied background in management, including senior roles in the public, private and charitable sectors, Julie is passionate about the delivery of high-quality, pragmatic consultancy and the development of people and teams. She has worked with numerous large organisations, including Sony Business Europe, major NHS Foundation Trusts and regulatory and research bodies, to develop strategy, lead large change programmes and develop internal capability. This has included senior healthcare commissioning roles.
Julie graduated from Cambridge University with a BA (Hons.) in History and also holds an MBA with Distinction in Public Service Management from the University of Brighton, where she is a Visiting Lecturer at postgraduate level. She is MSP (Managing Successful Programmes) Practitioner trained, is accredited in Personality Type Profiling (based on Myers-Briggs) and has the ILM Level 7 Certificate in Executive Coaching and Leadership Mentoring.
Julie regularly performs as part of improvisation group Classic Andy and enjoys incorporating techniques from improvised comedy into her work with individuals and teams. She is a Trustee of Carers First, a large carers’ charity, and is passionate about carers’ issues. Outside work, Julie researches and writes on art and architectural history and is a volunteer cataloguer at the RIBA Drawings & Manuscripts Collection at the V&A.
