Coworking is getting more and more popular across the US and now moreso in the UK – but why is everyone jumping on the bandwagon? For those that don’t know what it is, it is shared office space (usually open plan) that allows you to collaborate with individuals from other businesses. At any one time there can be between 5 and 30 different businesses here at Fruitworks. Aside from coworking being just plain awesome (we may be slightly biased), we explored the other benefits of coworking and why so many people love it!
Expand Your Personal & Business Network
When coworking, you can easily grow your personal network as well as your business network. You will often be stood in the kitchen and having a chat, making new friends – or maybe hotdesking with a designer who can help you rebrand your business. This can be especially beneficial for solopreneurs who are struggling to keep motivated, you’re surrounded by likeminded people in a coworking space. You never know who you can meet!
Improve Your Work/Life Balance
When you work from home it can be difficult to tell when you should call it a day and shut off your laptop for the evening – your family can often suffer because of this. A coworking space helps you stick to a schedule and actually separate your work from home.
Not Chained To Long Leases
One of the major benefits of coworking is the fact that you’re not chained to long leases, and in our case there are no lengthy contracts either. It’s all about signing up and getting started, nice and simple 🙂
Find Talent To Work With
In coworking spaces there are often freelancers and small agencies who are available to work with you, right in the same office! So even though you may be a one-man-band, you can feel like you have a bigger team and work with people you know. It can be scary to take on a large project as you feel like it’s too big for you. These projects will no longer be too large for “little old me” as you will have other coworkers at your fingers tips ready to collaborate with you.
Coworking spaces are more motivating than working from home or from a home office, you will never be on your own. You are surrounded by other hardworking individuals, but it’s still more relaxed than a corporate office.
This one is one of the major benefits of coworking! Yes you do have to pay your membership fees, but things like electricity, internet and refreshments are all included in your membership. This makes it much more affordable for startups and freelancers to have their own professional space as there are no unexpected overheads.
No More Loneliness
It’s a fact that freelancers and entrepreneurs suffer from isolation, and it’s a lot more than people think. By working in a coworking space you have the benefit of interacting with other members, social events and sometimes business events too. Working from home can be lonely, work for yourself and not by yourself!
Get A Second View On Your Troubles
Coworking spaces are collaborative hubs, great things can come from within a coworking space. If you’re stuck on something, chances are someone in the office will have the knowledge or expertise to help you OR they can refer you to someone who does. You wouldn’t get that from your pet cat would you? 😉
