What is a slam?

A slam is a form of poetry competition. Each poet gets 3 minutes to perform a piece on a theme of the night, then the audience votes on a score sheet who their favourite performer was. The scores are tallied up and the winner gets to headline the next show!

Normally, at a poetry slam, the performers get a single piece to showcase their talent. At UTTERANCE, the performer can perform 1-2 poems before their slam piece to showcase their performance style, and you as an audience get to know them better!
